1st week of the new NEW YEAR!!

2011 START OVER THE NEW YEAR WEIGHT LOSS SUPER CREW!!

Okay so seriously, we need to come up with a shorter name for our group....any suggestions?

Just one week (not even) into our new New Year and I already have heard back from many of you with all sorts of awesome tips that I can't wait to try out and share. I hope you guys are cool with my blog idea, I just decided this would be easier so you could always have a reference for past posts that have recipes etc. that you might want to look up in the future. It's not public it can only be viewed by the group so share as much or little as you would like. I'm putting it all out there!

So first - let me just tell you all where I started January 10th........

Weight - 156
Waist - 31
Fat Zone - 37
Hips - 40

In case you don't know (and you wouldn't because I made it up) the "Fat Zone" is the area under my waist/belly button where all my flab likes to gather.

I'm trying to get to 145 or around that, might be more like 142. As long as I'm looking slammin hot in all the jeans that don't fit me right now, I'm happy.

It's been 5 days and a pretty LAME week to be totally honest. After never-ending illness between Justin, Afton and myself...I ended up totally wrecked, unable to move my head without the room spinning and so nauseated it was awful! The doctor told me I had Vertigo! Inner ear infection from this non-stop sick and lack of sleep, rest, etc. So exercise was pretty much out of the question, but being so low on energy made it a little easier to follow my lower calorie plan and it worked! This morning I was down to 151.4 already! I don't really feel that much thinner, probably because I haven't had my normal workout situation going but I'm excited to see that even without exercise I can loose weight by tracking my calories.

Here are a few tips for this week:
  1. (Caroline) I've found that drinking herbal tea can help me conquer food cravings in between meals - I have loads of yummy flavors and I sweeten them with Splenda so it's almost like a dessert. In fact on days I've eaten too much I just have tea for dessert because I MUST have something sweet after dinner.
  2. (Caroline) I found last year that Weight Watchers online works for me - I love it because it just simplifies tracking your food and figuring out what you can take in to stay at a deficit. There are all sorts of good ideas and recipes on there as well which of course I will be sharing! It's $45 for 3 months right now, but do this any way you like. I just found this to be helpful. Here's the link if any of you want to try it. http://www.weightwatchers.com/index.aspx
  3. (Natasha) Start the day off with a high protein breakfast (i.e. egg white omelet, skip cereal and granola) it will set the tone for your metabolism and you will burn calories all day long!
  4. (Amy) - Morning Smoothies! As far as recipes go, I make this http://clevercook.blogspot.com/2010/10/healthy-breakfast-smoothie-1.html or this one http://clevercook.blogspot.com/2011/01/healthy-breakfast-smoothie-2.html
first thing in the morning. I've been doing it since October and I can really feel the difference in my body. It gives me all my servings of fruit and 2 servings of vegetables, which makes it easier for me to eat all my other vegetables throughout the day. My sister makes this for herself and her 18 month old and he loves it.

Here's a picture of me at my very largest - I mean obviously I had just moments before this had a baby, but dude I was ENORMO! There are no tricks to this picture, I was a wide load with sausage fingers! When Afton was born I was well over 200 lbs!

It's hard to tell, but this picture was taken last Spring when I had lost my baby weight and was looking crazy good. If I tried to put that shirt on today it would be a disaster! So that's where I'm trying to get back to

Okay ladies - WHERE YOU AT?? If you dare to share let us know where you're starting and where you want to be - of course you don't have to share, but I am putting it out there so you rad people can help hold me accountable. If you want to let us know your starting point comment below on this post with that and anything else you want to share. Next weeks post should be more fun since I hopefully won't be in bed most the week. Keep on killing it girls!!

  1. Hi. I am Caroline's Aunt Derdie (Derrith) and I started the year at 184.2. On Friday I was 181.6 but I've been terrible over the weekend. I have a weigh in at Jenny Craig every week which helps with accountability. My goal this time around is 160. I am going to try to do my high protein breakfasts and more fruits and veggies. I'm quite addicted to over processes 100 calorie snacks! Not good! :-)

  2. AUNT DERRITH! You are so awesome - and I totally know how it goes with the 100 calorie snacks, they are such a sneaky trick! A few months ago I found these oatmeal chocolate chip 100 calorie packs at Trader Joe's that have totally wrecked me! We will do better this week for sure - thanks for posting a comment!

  3. Hi!! I'm Caroline's cousin Julia!! Last year I was running 15 miles a week and wasn't eaten out much. But things got busy and unfortunately I gained about 20 pounds. Which puts me at wanting to loose about 30 lbs.
Last week I was drinking tea whenever I was hungry between meals and was doing good till the weekend. Then things went downhill. I'm hoping to get more consistent with my healthy eating habits.
I'm jogging 2 miles several days a week and hoping to get that back up to 3 miles a day soon.
I'll weigh in later this weeks and let you ladies know if a lost any poundage!
Good luck to everyone with their goals this week and thank you Caroline for setting this up!!

  4. This year I'm focusing on eating healthy, not necessarily losing weight (although weight-loss would be welcomed). I am currently reading 2 books to work towards no longer emotional eating so I don't ever have to diet again. Mostly, I want to focus on accepting my body where it is right now so I don't always hate how I look in the mirror (because even when I weighed 40 pounds less that I do now, I still thought I needed to lose 10 pounds). The first books is "The 7 secrets of slim people." The second book is "Women, Food, and God."

    Weekly goals:
    1. Secret #2: Eat with awareness & without judgement- Eat without distractions (no eating at my desk, in front of the tv, while reading a magazine) and put my fork down between each bite so I can focus on enjoying what I eat. If I need to emotionally eat, be ok with it, I'm not going to change my coping skills overnight. "You cannot learn and judge yourself at the same time."
    2. Read 3 chapters of Women, Food, and God.
    3. Walk 3 times this week for 13 minutes each time.
    4. Eat all my required vegetables 3 days this week.

  6. you guys are going to be a fun and inspiring weight loss/awareness crew. i like amy's goal of focusing on the taste of food vs inhaling in front of the computer. right on point.

my goal for this year is to gain some sort of muscle tone that people can see when i'm not flexing, if that's even possible. and do something with my asian no-butt. i have bad knees, but i will still try to conquer this flat beast. currently the only squats i do are picking up ronin's toys 5x a day and i don't really think that counts. we cook pretty healthy and i went off chocolate this year so that in itself is cutting out a lot of calories i inhale. at the dr's office today, the dr had m&m's on his table in a bowl. he wasn't there yet and i was pretty proud that i gave ronin 2 and didn't help myself to 1. if you know me, that's pretty amazing. for dessert tonight i had whole foods date mochi - you cut up a few squares and pop them in the oven until they puff up and get golden. put a tiny slice in the top and a teaspoon of ice cream and it's dreamy. used to do it w/a splash of chocolate sauce but that's out. it's amazing and sweet and healthy and probably totals 3 T of ice cream which is pretty great in my book.

well, i just wanted to say hello to everyone. and ask if anyone else hears caroline's voice in their head when you read her comments. you know, the excited tone. it's awesome.

  7. As most of you know, I'm a workout fiend. I have a serious insomnia issue that I've fought since I was 6, and I'm a little hyperactive (so I certainly don't expect anyone else to work out every day for 2 hours at a time!) That being said, I'm a HUGE advocate for healthy living and positive body images. I'd absolutely love to share some of the tips I come across that are helpful- the most important thing is that we BE healthy, FEEL strong and are proud of who and what we are!
